About Dr Helen Czerski: Blue Machine: How the Ocean Shapes our World
PRESENTED BY THE COSMIC SHAMBLES NETWORK
Join us for the official homecoming launch event for Blue Machine, Dr Helen Czerski’s exploration of the “ocean engine”—the physics behind the ocean’s systems—and why it matters.
Blue Machine is one of the biggest stories ever told. A greater understanding of Earth’s oceans is crucial to our future.
Drawing on years of experience at the forefront of marine science, Dr Helen Czerski captures the magnitude and subtlety of this complex force, showing us the thrilling extent to which we are at the mercy of this great engine.
In Blue Machine, Helen recalibrates our view of this defining feature of our planet, illuminating the murky depths of the ocean engine, examining the messengers, passengers and voyagers that live in it, travel over it, and survive because of it. From ancient Polynesians who navigated the Pacific by reading the waves to the ever-changing currents to amazing creatures like the Greenland shark.
"In Helen Czerski’s hands, the mechanical becomes magical. An instant classic"
Tristan Gooley, author of How to Read Water
