About SICK! Festival: Dementia Street
When his mum's battle with dementia ended Smug wanted to contribute something to the fight against it, so he wrote a play about the seven stages of her cognitive decline. It’s called Dementia Street. He tells her story in reverse, starting at stage seven and ending at stage one. As someone who has personally experienced the impact of dementia, Smug understand the challenges families face in caring for their loved one.
But he also knows that even in the face of this condition, there are moments of love, humour, and happiness that can be celebrated, reminding us that even in the face of adversity, love and hope can prevail.
