We’re launching a brand new Contact Community Council – and we’re looking for people from across our local communities to help us shape what happens here.

The Contact Community Council will be an inter-generational group of people living or working in Moss Side, Hulme, Ardwick and Rusholme, coming together at Contact throughout the year to talk about what our building, performances and activities could look like.

This isn’t going to be a council where we simply ask for your opinions and then carry on as before. We want our Community Council members to have a genuine role in shaping how Contact is used, the events and performances we programme, and the ways we connect with and support our local communities.

There will be some things we can’t change, Contact is also a working venue with a commercial hires programme, and our spaces and resources are not unlimited, but within those boundaries, we want to listen, act and make changes based on what our community tells us.

We’d also love to see more local people using Contact as their space. Not only coming here to see a show or attend an event, but meeting friends and family, working or studying in our co-working space, grabbing a coffee or something to eat in our new cafe and bar, and using the building for their own community-focused projects.

Community Council members will:
•    Meet four times a year at Contact, with food provided
•    Receive a £25 stipend for every meeting they attend
•    Receive tickets to Contact events and performances, so you can experience what we do and bring your thoughts and ideas back to the council
•    Have access costs covered where needed
•    Help shape how Contact’s building, programme and activities can better serve local people

We’re particularly interested in hearing from people of different ages and backgrounds, with different experiences of Contact and different ideas about what a cultural venue can mean to its local community.

You don’t need to be an artist, theatre-goer or arts expert to get involved. In fact, we’d love to hear from people who don’t currently use Contact very often, or who see opportunities for the building that we might not have thought of ourselves.
