This year, Outspoken will showcase Queer artists who have an innovative approach to literature; expect to see poetry expressed through movement, sound, and rhythm.

More about the artists

Billie Meredith

Billie Meredith has performed both music and poetry for Manchester International Festival, Schaubühne Berlin, BBC, HOME Theatre, GreenMan Festival, Fio, Brighter Sounds, The Royal Exchange, British Council, Manchester Literature Festival and published whilst representing Manchester in slam competition, in playtext and her continued work with Young Identity.

Her most recent work includes ‘Imprint’, HOME Theatre, ALPHABUS, MIF and playing American poet Walt Whitman in Stephen Hornby’s ‘Adhesion of Love’. Billie’s poetry to continues documenting personal growth, people watching, mental health and the human condition.

Yandass Ndlovu

Yandass is the founder of I M Pact Dance, and has a 1st class BA Hons at Arden School of Theatre. Credits include Our Town, Macbeth and Jubilee (Royal Exchange); FlexN Manchester, Alphabus and WOZA! (Manchester International Festival); Icaria (Nowness); Birth: Syria & Orchid (World Health Org); Yandass.mov (Random Acts, Channel 4); The X Factor (ITV)

Alexis Bailey

Alexis Bailey is a freelance performer. She has worked and collaborated with Johnny Autin (Autin dance company) recreating his show ‘queer words’, and on ‘Fortitude’, a film directed by Yandass Ndlovu and Aaron Howell. She has appeared as a member of Dream Dollz Ibiza, among appearances in other music videos and collaborations.

Dennis Anin-Badu, Videographer

Dennis has his own dance company Element Dance UK, specialising in street dance styles and choreography,  and teaches workshops, teams, guest slots, regular class, shows and more across the UK and Europe. Recent choreography includes working with Kenrick Sandy of Boy Blue Entertainment for Adidas 2018, and Zanesha Edwards’ newest music video ‘sweat’  as well as the live performance at Nottinghill Carnival 2019 and other music videos.

Paige Goulding

Paige is a North West based dance artist, performer, teacher and choreographer with a BA First Class Hons in Dance Practices training in Contemporary and Somatics. She teaches in multiple dance schools and colleges across the North West and is a founder of PNGDance; a business that offers workshops, intensive courses and classes in Commercial, Urban and Heels. Credits include: Adidas, BBC/CBBC, Tinchy Stryder, Reminisce Festival, Chipmunk, Sky Kyrenia Cyrpus, Dream Dollz Ibiza.

Jasmine Gardosi

Jasmine Gardosi is a multiple slam champion, Birmingham Poet Laureate finalist and winner of the Out-Spoken Prize for Poetry. Jasmine uses audience participation, beatboxing and manipulation of voice and body in order to explore LGBTQ+ issues, sex education and mental health. Her work has appeared on Button Poetry, at the Tate Modern, Glastonbury Festival, and across BBC Radio, including Radio 3’s The Verb, Radio 4 and Asian Network.

A previous BBC Arts Young Creative and Poet in Residence for the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, she is a current Poet in Residence at the Brontë Parsonage Museum, sits on the Ledbury Poetry Festival Board of Trustees and runs West Midlands Poets’ Place. Her debut pamphlet ‘Hurtz’ is published by Verve Poetry Press.
