Manchester's young spoken word collective.
Young Identity (YI) was formed in Moss Side, Manchester in 2006, and is one of our longest-standing and most important partnerships.
Led by outstanding facilitators, versatile poets and established spoken word performers, YI experiment with a plethora of creative writing genres including poetry, prose and writing for the stage and screen; catering to many creative palettes. The group prides itself on honest and active literature, and producing work that pushes boundaries.
Over the years, YI have performed across the UK and internationally, including performances in New York, Amsterdam and Berlin. They have worked with artists such as Lemn Sissay, international spoken word icon Saul Williams, dub poetry legend Linton Kwesi Johnson, Ted Hughes Prize Winner Kate Tempest and the late Amiri Baraka. The work of Young Identity has also featured at Manchester International Festival as part of FlexN (a dance style pioneered by New York’s Reggie Roc Gray).
The group is open to the novice and polished wordsmith alike!
Young Identity are holding their sessions via Zoom on Wednesday evenings during the current lockdown restrictions. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for an invitation link.
