It’s not a boast to claim that Manchester is pretty well known for it’s nightlife scene, but with our clubs and venues closed, the party has continued online via United We Stream.
This celebration of our region’s greatest DJs, musicians and performance has been beaming to your screens regularly from a specially created studio on the stage of The Met, Bury.
On Sunday 31 May we’ll be adding a bit of Contact magic to the mix in collaboration with Manchester City of Literature and Young Identity. Our City Speaks will be a night of Manchester’s best poets and spoken word artists. Hosted by Reece Williams, fresh from his gig as MC at One Mic Stand – Online. Keisha Thompson will headline the performance, and we’ll also have a slot from none other than Tony Walsh, whose famous poem, This is the Place, became a symbol of Manchester’s strength and unity after the 2017 terrorist attack.
Other poets confirmed so far include Louise Wallwein, Mandla Rae, Roma Havers, Isaiah Hull, Saf Elsenossi, Damani Dennisur, Jardel Rodrigues, Dave Viney, Nasima Bee and Argh Kid, with more yet to be announced.
The performances will be live from 7pm on United We Stream’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. United We Stream is free to watch. Donations are welcomed towards their fundraiser, which provides aid to Manchester-based entertainment venues, bars and restaurants and artists struggling from closures and revenue loss during the COVID-19 pandemic.
