Get yourself down to Band on the Wall on Thursday 28 November for some mid-week soulful, funkadelics at One Mic Stand. This event has always been a hive of talent and feel-good spirit.
Young Identity has really got their finger on the pulse when it comes to talent and this edition is no exception, inviting two guest artists to take the limelight: spoken word artist, playwright Dave Viney, and singer, songwriter and storyteller EVABEE.

As we get hyped-up for this edition and excited to meet the rest of the line-up, we’re taking a look at some of the past poetical and musical souls to have graced the One Mic stage.
Rowan and her band have put together an eclectic blend of soul, art-pop and world music, drawing influence from the likes of La Paquera de Jerez, Laura Mvula, Pink Floyd and Stevie Nicks. Growing up in Granada, Spain she celebrates these roots and sings of family, self-worth, society and everything in between. When she came to One Mic Stand earlier this year we were blown away by her song about Brexit, ‘The Garden’, with its Spanish, hip-swaying rhythms.
Children of Zeus
Konny Kon and Tyler Daley, collectively known as Children of Zeus, hit-up One Mic Stand way back in 2017. Both based in Manchester, Konny Kon is a DJ, MC and beatmaker best known as one third of Broke’n’English. Tyler Daley, also known as Hoodman has become regarded as one of the finest soul singers of his generation. And that’s the story so far… or so suggests the first track on their recent album, Travel Light, released at the end of 2018. This soulful blend of smooth vocals, tight rap and honey jazz tones is well worth a listen.
Misha made an appearance at One Mic Stand in Autumn 2016. Born and raised in Moss Side she rose national attention as a semi-finalist on the eighth series of The X Factor. Her powerful voice totally blew us away, check it out.
As well as stepping-up onto the One Mic Stand stage, LayFullStop used to work at Contact box office. Taken in as one of Manchester’s very own, she was originally from Birmingham and now holds the position as one of the UK’s elite hip-hop/soul artists. Her music offers a ‘combination of sweet tones, ferocious bars and an echo of nostalgia’, and her most recent album Colour Reaction, released in 2018, is a welcome treat. You can’t help but place her in the company of Monie Love and other hip-hop classics. Why not let her do the talking?
