Contact has been awarded £600,000 as part of a new partnership with global foundation Wellcome. The Wellcome funding will support a new arts and health research space within the planned refurbishment of the Contact building, and the new 3-year post of Health Science Producer.
This builds on our recent successes in creating hard-hitting new shows responding to the health challenges facing young people, such as There Is a Light: BRIGHTLIGHT about young people’s experience of cancer care, and the soon to be televised I Told My Mum I Was Going On An RE Trip, charting young women’s experience of unplanned pregnancy and abortion.
“We’re delighted to support Contact’s redevelopment to permanently embed research in health and social care in their work. This funding will mean that the theatre will have better facilities to develop that work, addressing challenging issues and sparking debate with the communities and young people it reaches.”
Tom Ziessen, Engaging Science Manager at Wellcome
