We are pleased to announce that our building will become a festive haven on Sunday 5th December for Melanin Markets Manchester – set to be Manchester’s biggest Christmas market event showcasing Black businesses.
The day encourages ALL communities to replace their Christmas purchases with products from Black-led businesses, with the hope that spending Black will become a normalised practise throughout the year.
Please note, this event is FREE for all to attend. No need to book, drop in at any time between 12-5pm
Organised by business owners, local community members and Contact alumni Bianca Danielle and Kelly Morgan, we are really pleased to be able to partner up with them, to host this exciting market event in our newly refurbished building. It will be the first time we have ever held an event of this kind in our building and we couldn’t be more thrilled!
Melanin Markets will be a day to encourage, promote and celebrate Manchester’s Black Businesses and community. We stand by the Black Pound Day ethos of increasing the visibility of Black businesses and highlighting the importance of spending Black, so we can facilitate change around socio-economic inequalities affecting Black communities.
This event is FREE to attend and inclusive to EVERYONE – no need to book, just turn up!
Add the date to your diary, write your festive gift list out and come on down and shop, support and learn about a variety of incredible Black businesses.
When: Sunday 5th December 2021
What time: 12-5pm
Where: Contact Theatre, Oxford Road, Manchester, M15 6JA
The organisers behind the event
Black business owners Bianca Danielle (Ruby Dean Designs) and Kelly Morgan (Plantain Ave) will be hosting this Melanin Markets Christmas event. Taking inspiration from many of their peers, they wanted to create a space to spotlight Black business owners like themselves, whilst providing a fun, festive event in a building that many people from the local community may not have visited before.
“I am so pleased to be able to create this event with Kelly and Contact. I see a lot of other cities do it, they really push Black culture and Black businesses to the forefront providing their own platforms, not waiting for anyone else to do it for them. I love that us in Manchester are starting to move like that too. It’s our time.”
– Bianca
“There is such an amazing range of Black Owned Businesses who don’t get the attention or support they deserve and need to grow and thrive. It’s great that there is a focus on changing this with initiatives such as the Black Pound day movement. The fact that Bianca and I can come together to create Melanin Markets Manchester with the support of Contact is wonderful, and the energy we have received from the community is beautiful. I am super excited for this.”
