Working on The Agency as a Community Producer you will support the delivery of a young persons community project as they take their first actions in the territory using a £2000 pot of funding they have been awarded to realise their idea. The Agency is a national piece of work with projects being delivered in Manchester, London, Cardiff and Belfast

Contact is the leading national contemporary theatre and arts organisation with young people at the heart of everything we do. Based in Manchester, we work locally, nationally and internationally to provide life-changing opportunities for the next generation of creative leaders, artists and audiences, redefining theatre in the process. We produce and present a professional programme of outstanding performances, events and festivals in our building, surprising places and virtual spaces, for young and highly diverse audiences.

The Agency is a collaborative force directed at engaging and empowering young people within the community to plan, structure and deliver their own projects. Projects created in The Agency can be anything ranging from Sports projects, natural skin care products, workshops for young mothers and more, the only remit is that the projects must benefit the community.  Working with young people from Moston and Harpurhey we support them to plan, structure and deliver their own social enterprises, businesses or projects that will make a positive impact in the community. In December 2018 the participants in The Agency will pitch their ideas to a funding panel where 3 ideas will be awarded £2000 each to realise their ideas in the community. We are looking for for 2 Community Producers to join the team to  support 2 of this years funded projects.

As an emerging community based producer/project manager you will take responsibility for one of the funded projects to assist the individuals involved in order for their idea to be realized and delivered to the fullest of their potential. You will work alongside The Agency team during the scheduled weekly sessions as well as independently allowing access to your existing networks and forming new relationships with in the community relevant to the development and delivery of your appointed project.

Job Brief:

To work closely with your appointed project to ensure that all tasks and aims are met and deadlines are achieved.

To attend the weekly sessions with The Agency on Wednesday evenings and Saturday daytimes

To work independently outside of scheduled sessions with your appointed project where appropriate

To assist in identifying future funding opportunities and methods of sustainability for the projects and their development

To represent the vision of the Agency and make relationships with local community members, organizations and businesses to enable the young people to realize their ideas

To ensure all projects are fully documented and that all planning and budget documents are in place

To assist in the delivery of the work for your appointed project, encourage and support the agents to work independently with a view of equipping them with the skills to complete future projects alone

To report back to the Project Manager of the progress of the project on a weekly basis to ensure that a holistic overview can be maintained

To respond to and support to the specific needs of each young person’s project

To work closely with the Agency Project Manager to ensure the above are aims are met and to discuss any concerns that arise of additional support needed

To feed into the evaluation of the process set against the aims and objectives of the project

 Person spec:

A passion for empowering young people to engender change in their lives and wider community

A desire to affect social change within hard to reach communities

Confidence with communicating to a range a different people and a an ability to build relationships in a community setting

Experience of working with and facilitating young people

An understanding of the challenges facing young people today

Experience of delivering community based workshops

A diverse approach to working with a wide range of people

Ability to problem solve and make creative solutions to challenge

A proven track record of being committed and reliable when working with young people

Experience of delivering community based work

Knowledge of the local area in which you will be engaging

Knowledge of good safeguarding practice

An up to date enhanced CRB/DBS disclosure

Contract type – Freelance

Fee: £175 per week across 16 weeks. Total fee of £2800

Term – January 2019 – April 2019 (Wednesday evenings, Saturday day-time & 1 other ½ day per week – Approx. 12hrs per week)

The Agency is a programme originally conceived by Marcus Faustini in Rio de Janeiro where it is delivered by Agência de Redes para a Juventude.

The UK pilot (2013-15) was funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation
