2017 is an important year in British LGBT history as it marks the 60th anniversary of the publication of the Wolfenden Report that recommended that homosexual activity should no longer be a criminal offence. It also marks the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality. There have been incredible changes to the rights of LGBT people over the past 60 years, but what is the reality of being young and LGBT in the UK today?
Contact has commissioned artists Art with Heart, Beyond Beyond, and Andrew Anderson to work with LGBT young people from across Greater Manchester to identify the important issues affecting them today. Through the 18 new photographic portraits and video captured with youth groups from across the region, we hear from the young people themselves, about their lives and what really matters to them.
Queer Youth In Focus has been created as part of Queer Contact Festival, celebrating LGBT arts and culture in Greater Manchester, and runs alongside the Queer Youth Gathering, a day of discussion about the issues affecting LGBT young people.
