Blank Media Collective: Location Relative
Blank Media Collective: Location Relative
Ticket Info
FREELocation Relative is Blank Media Collective’s first exhibition in partnership with Contact.
The exhibition has taken as its starting point Afrovibes 2012, which is an arts festival coming to Contact as part of Black History Month. Afrovibes brings a fantastic collection of contemporary theatre, dance, spoken word and music from South Africa to Manchester; its great line up of events taking new inspiration and conversation to the city. Thinking about how to build on this idea, Blank Media Collective curators took the notion of travel, location and the spread and exchange of people and their ideas.
The resulting exhibition, Location Relative, seeks to explore these themes through the eyes of contemporary artists who are producing work in Britain but are concerned with or informed by other localities.
The exhibition as a whole offers a small insight into the vast network of other places many of us have relationships to: places of birth, of ancestry, of imagination, of desire. Evidenced through the artists’ work is the common theme of passage. Here we see it examined in relation to imagery, media, ephemera, idea and object as each journeys across personal, public, physical and imagined localities.
The exhibition goes beyond the traditional use of wall space to create a more dynamic and engaging experience. Furthermore the launch event will feature an evolving, interactive work which will require participatory interactions; your history, journeys, ideas and collaboration relating to the themes. The result will be a musical journey through time and space with Blank Media Collective’s (Multi)National Anthem.
There will be complimentary drinks tokens available on the night on first come, first served basis so come and join us to celebrate this great new partnership!
