Under The Covers

Contact Young Company (CYC), directed by Stacy Makishi

What you’re about to see is: just the tip of the iceberg, a series of snatched moments that we’ve collected during our explorations about sex…

Under The Covers examines young people’s contemporary attitudes to sex, questioning myths and breaking down taboos. The show is inspired by the new Wellcome Collection exhibition The Institute of Sexology, and the recent National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles.

Contact Young Company has explored the topic of Sexology with a gaggle of artists, theorists and sexologists. They also got up close and personal with The Institute of Sexology exhibition in London. It has been an intriguing, enlightening and supportive process.

Contact Young Company (formerly CYAC) is Contact’s renowned young ensemble, made up of young performers, actors, dancers, musicians, poets and MCs. Each year the company creates brand new professional standard shows in collaboration with major national and international artists such as Forced Entertainment, Lies Pauwels and Grupo XIX de Teatro.

PRAISE FOR CONTACT YOUNG COMPANY

'I wasn't expecting such a delicate and sophisticated piece of work. It left me deeply moved; humbled by the willing transparency of the performers to tell their truth with humour and sometimes bewilderment. I can be afraid for newer generations; how in the midst of this hyper sexualised society with its expectations and assumptions, will they find their way? I wept at the end of their performance in relief and pride. It seems, we're going to be okay. ' Dr. Rachel Morris, Comsmopolitan sex therapist and broadcaster
