Verbally Challenged

Script-writing showcase

Got something to say? Each month we set five new writers a different creative challenge. It’s down to you, the audience, to decide who wins the ultimate cash prize! So whether you’re a creative writer, an ambitious student, an aspiring critic or just someone who is passionate about new writing, Verbally Challenged gives you the opportunity to get involved!

Verbally Challenged is hosted by a different guest artist each month. Previous hosts include Ben Mellor (Pen-Ultimate, BBC Radio 4 Poetry Slam Champion), Dominic Berry (Tomorrow, I will Go Dancing, host of Freed Up and Outspoken) and Regie Cabico (HBO Def Poetry Jam  and The Bird That Looks Like Two Mustaches Kissing). After each of the five 10 minute performances, your host will lead an informal Q&A session where you can provide the writers with feedback, challenge them with questions and discuss the piece you have just seen. At the end of the night, you can vote for your favourite piece of writing and the ultimate winner receives a cash prize!

Verbally Challenged is your opportunity to see brand new writing, hot off the press by some of the best talent the North West has to offer. Come along and let your voice shape the direction of Manchester’s new writing scene.
