Future Fires 2011

Encouraging young people to embrace diversity and culture

Simone’s project Culture in Action focused on young people in the Oldham area to explore culture and identity using the arts as a creative tool. Simone delivered a variety of workshops including Bollywood dance and Chinese puppetry. The project aimed to build self-esteem and confidence whilst allowing expressions of creativity and encouraging inclusiveness in Oldham.

Simone has since delivered 3 summers as a drama specialist at camps in America and has recently completed a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts. She now aims to continue to build on the partnerships she developed during Future Fires to deliver further projects in her community.

“Future Fires opened my eyes to the things I could do and proved that I could do much more than I thought. Future Fires helped me to become a young leader.”
