Future Fires 2011

Rosarie Walsh & Frances Paterson

Drama workshops with vulnerable women

Fran and Rosarie worked together on their project Inspire Manchester’s Women through which they delivered drama workshops with three different groups of vulnerable women across Manchester.

Their three projects were:

  • Arts Award at Eccles Youth Centre. A one week programme for young women from Salford who took part in drama workshops, had a backstage tour of Contact, performed a sharing and achieved the Bronze Arts Award.
  • Salford Women’s Centre Drama group. A four month programme of weekly drama classes for clients from Salford Women’s Centre. Most of the participants had suffered from domestic violence, drug and alcohol problems and/or mental health issues.
  • Nacro Manchester. A project for young women at risk of sexual exploitation and of offending.

Since finishing Future Fires, Fran and Rosarie have set up their own theatre company called Tandem Theatre. As Artistic Directors they continue to facilitate various drama projects working with a variety of groups, companies and funders. Fran and Rosarie are also supporting current Future Fires participants as peer mentors.

“Future Fires gave us the confidence, experience and training to start Tandem Theatre and now we are able to deliver drama projects with some of the most vulnerable people in Manchester.”
