Leading the Future introduced leadership to young people

Erica’s project Leading the Future introduced the role of leadership to young people.  The first stage took place a high school working with students to create their own performance and workshop for primary students who may struggle with the transition into high school.

The second stage worked with year 9 students to develop their own theatre performance that dealt with issues important to them. This was performed in the local community to an audience of family and friends.

Since Future Fires, Erica has set up her own community arts organisation enJOY arts with Naomi Austin.

enJOY Arts work from the belief that participation in the arts is empowering, unifying and should be accessible to all. Their participatory arts projects are committed to generating inspiring creative experiences, which improve relationships with self, others and the environment. They work with children, young people and adults in a variety of settings including formal education, criminal justice and community outreach services.

Erica is also supporting current Future Fires as a peer mentor.

“Future Fires gave me opportunities to project manage my own creative process. The training and info regarding funding was helpful. I also developed networks which have gone on to help me deliver further projects through enJOY arts.”
