So, here we are! A new term of CYAC and a sparkly new company who are ready to go!
With lead facilitator Kate Colgrave-Pope we jumped straight into discussing:
- What makes a good actor?
- What kind of theatre thrills you?
- How do you make an audience believe and what is the process you go through as an actor?
The group were then challenged to create really specific objects and soundscapes in groups, a challenge that they passed with flying colours. After some group movement and trust exercises we then moved onto creating lifts in pairs. Once the company started to emotional invest in the lifts they were truly beautiful.
We then played some acting games which led us to begin looking at guidelines for devising and improvisation which really began to help the company in their improvisations.
My favourite moment of the week: After an extremely impressive piece of group movement in the first session (I was actually amazed... the group had never worked together before and it was almost perfect!) we knew we had to try the exercises again to check it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't!!!
After a skills sharing session I am struggling to think of a skill that can’t be performed by this talented bunch! From musicians to magicians, singers to skateboarders, MCing to martial arts, and a certain company member who says he will do anything on stage I am really excited to see what this term of CYAC brings...
