Contact is feeling very quiet at the minute. It’s hard to believe this time two weeks ago the building was alive with Contacting the World workshops, performances and improvised jamming sessions.
As always the week was an explosion of creativity, diversity and conversation. Some highlights from the later part of the week included a telepresence linkup with the Australian National Symposium and the Contacting the World School’s Showcase. Both events perfectly demonstrated the ability of the festival to reach communities beyond those of the twinned companies.
The atmosphere was poignant on Thursday evening during the screening of Crown Troupe of Africa's show (their visas had been refused so the company were unable to make it to the festival). A few tears were shed in the audience, but what was particularly striking from the video was their positivity and sense of humour in the face of adversity. Their attitude is truly inspirational!
As is only right, we wrapped the week of performance up with a party on Saturday night. It was a great evening of fancy dress, music and dancing. Although it was sad to say goodbyes after our final meal together on Sunday, the mood was still celebratory. There was a real feeling that this wouldn’t be the last we’d see/hear of each other! Of course, that is the beauty of this wonderful festival, even after the week finishes, friendships and creative collaborations will continue to grow...
Goodbye CTW 2012; I think everyone involved would agree you’ve been AMAZING!
