This week I handed my dissertation in at last! Not that I didn't enjoy writing it but it's a relief to have written it all and handed it in. When I was writing I reflected on how my Future Fires project represents a model for schools to use drama to develop leadership skills. Although there were many challenges that I faced I can say confidently that yes the young people did develop leadership skills and all of them had said they'd like to do something like this again.
Having reflected and evaluated this I am now using what I learnt from this project to help with the next stage...
Initial good news for stage 2 is that I secured O2 Think Big funding; this will go towards developing my project further. So what is this second stage? Well I intend to continue with the idea of young leaders in the arts but this time in the Stockport community. I plan to work with a group of young people and support them in identifying a local issue with the emphasis on them developing their own performance that looks into this issue. I will support the young people in developing the performance, encouraging them to think about the budget and ensuring they are involved in research and marketing for the final performance. With some meetings set up with local organisations in Stockport over the next few weeks I hope to get the workshops started by late October.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how this next project will develop and applying all I've learnt from stage one to this second stage.
